sharma: Everything didn’t start in 2014: Sharma in his ‘last’ Rajya Sabha speech | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Congress’ Rajya Sabha member Anand Sharma on Monday urged the BJP-led dispensation to “shed the mentality” that everything in the country started only after 2014 and that there was only barren land when the Modi government assumed office nearly eight years ago.
Participating in the debate on the motion of thanks to the President’s address, he attacked the government for not mentioning national security and the roadmap to deal with border tensions in Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh, unemployment and challenges that India faces.
“The rise of India didn’t happen in 2014 and where we have reached today is not just eight years’ journey, rather a journey of 74 years. I don’t accept that we’re getting respect globally for the first time. Many key institutions were set up after 1947,” he said while listing the setting up of IITs and mega infrastructure projects during Congress governments.
Mentioning it as possibly his last speech in the House as his term ends in April, he slammed government for not not keeping the Parliament informed on the Chinese aggression issue. He cited how in 1962, then Congress government discussed the situation in middle of a war when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was elected to LS for first time.
Sharma and NCP’s Fauzia Khan raised the issue of hate speeches while urging the government to stop it.
