Directed by Gowtham Tinnanuri, this entertainer is a remake of a Telugu drama by the same name. Shahid had extensively trained on the field to perfect his role of a cricketer. Speaking about the movie, Shahid had told ETimes in an interview, “I have seen a lot of cricket as I am a huge cricket buff. You cannot be as good as a professional cricketer playing at international level, you can’t get there. The idea was just to get the personality of a cricketer in my character. The story of ‘Jersey’ is being told with a lot of emotion. That’s why the people would like to see this film, else they would like to see a match. The film is an in-depth drama which gives you an understanding of what can go on inside a sportsperson.”
While the makers are yet to decide on the film’s next release date, rumours about a digital release cannot be ruled out. The makers of ‘Jersey’ are said to be in talks with an OTT platform for a direct digital release.

Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur starrer ‘Jersey’ postponed amid rising Omicron scare – Times of India
Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur starrer ‘Jersey‘ was all set to hit the screens this Friday but the makers have decided to hold the release. ETimes has it that this decision has been taken owing to the rising Omicron scare in the country. While theatres in Delhi have shut shop, Maharashtra is also running only on 50 per cent occupancy. Owing to these hurdles, the makers of ‘Jersey’ have decided to call off the film’s theatrical release, which was slated for December 31.
