Punjabi actor Deep Sidhu, who was accused in the Red Fort violence case, died in a road accident on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway that bypasses Delhi. He was travelling from Delhi to Bhatinda in a white Mahindra Scorpio that rammed a trailer truck at 9:30 PM. The viral videos of the accident site clearly show Sidhu’s SUV smashed on the rear of the trailer truck and the SUV’s driver side portion is completely pushed in by the impact. After the accident, Deep Sidhu was brought dead to the hospital. Sidhu sparked controversy when he allegedly provoked protesters for violence at Red Fort during a tractor rally in New Delhi. Consequently, he was arrested by the Delhi Police in February last year in connection with the Red Fort violence. He was granted bail in April by the Delhi court on a condition that he has to appear for questioning whenever the police would call him. Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi tweeted his condolences on the actor’s death. “Deeply saddened to learn about the unfortunate demise of renowned actor and social activist, Deep Sidhu. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family and fans,” Mr Channi tweeted. Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal and the Aam Aadmi Party’s chief ministerial candidate Bhagwant Mann also tweeted condolences.
