Mumbai: 139 of 1,827 persons on board Goa cruise ship test positive for Covid-19 | Mumbai News – Times of India

MUMBAI: A day after the Mumbai-Goa Cordelia cruise ship arrived in Mumbai, 139 of the 1,827 passengers on board tested positive for Covid-19. These were apart from the 66 who had already tested positive earlier.
Of the 66, only 60 passengers had returned to Mumbai while six had disembarked in Goa itself.
Civic officials said that they began testing all the passengers from Tuesday evening and the same continued till Wednesday 5.30am.
Assistant municipal commissioner Shivdas Gurav, in charge of the A Ward, said that initially there was a slight resistance from the passengers who said that they already had tested negative. “But then we insisted on a test as per the rule,” he said.
“All 139 passengers are asymptomatic. Those asymptomatic with no comorbidities and who have a seperate well-ventilated room will be allowed to isolate in their homes while others have been sent to either BMC or paid quarantine facilities,” he said, adding that all the negative persons are being disembarked now. Those negative will be stamped for seven-day home isolation.
On Wednesday morning, the asymptomatic positive patients who disembarked from the cruise ship were sent to BMC’s Richardson and Cruddas jumbo centre in Byculla. One person was sent to St George hospital while the remaining to various hotels which are acting as paid quarantine facilities for asymptomatic patients.
The Cordelia cruise ship had left for Goa from Mumbai last weekend and during the journey, one crew member of the ship showed flu-like symptoms. Following this, the crew member was tested and his report came out to be positive. The cruise management informed the local authorities at Goa and following that, an RT-PCR test of all the passengers and crew members on-board was carried out, out of which 66 were found positive.
Waterways Leisure Tourism Pvt Ltd in a press statement issued on Tuesday had said that they are extending complete cooperation to the port authorities, state, central and all other agencies and offices. “As of today, due to rising Omicron cases, the cruise scheduled for January 5 has been suspended in light of the DG Shipping’s advisory,” read the statement.
