‘Karhal is worth 300 seats’: Battle hots up for Yadav fort | India News – Times of India

AGRA: Union home minister Amit Shah appealed to voters in Mainpuri’s Karhal on Thursday to ensure the defeat of Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and pave the way for a “clean” BJP government in the state. Clearly making it a high-stakes prestige fight, Shah equated a victory in Karhal to winning “as many as 300 seats” in Uttar Pradesh. “Make the lotus bloom in Karhal and SP will be wiped out from UP. (Winning) only one seat can do the work of 300,” he said.
Shah was addressing a gathering only a few kms away on a day SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav held a rally for his son Akhilesh, who is taking on BJP’s SP Singh Baghel in Karhal. Shah didn’t let that pass. He said: “Some 5 km from here, even in this heat and at this age, Netaji has to come to campaign. If the beginning is like this then what will be the end result?”
Shah accused SP of being “nepotistic” and said, “PM Modi is the son of a tea seller and understands the pain of the poor. The SP’s ‘S’, meanwhile, stands for ‘sampatti ikattha karo’ (amass wealth) and ‘P’ for ‘pariwarwad chalao’ (run dynasty).” When SP was in office, Mulayam Singh’s family occupied 45 posts, he claimed. “They think only about their family, not even for their own caste,” the minister alleged. “We have fielded Baghel to ensure that the mantra of ‘sabka saath, sabka vikas’ reaches the last man. Ensure Baghel’s victory and I guarantee that all backward classes will get proper participation.”
