NEW DELHI: In a massive surge, Maharashtra on Thursday reported 36,265 new coronavirus cases, followed by West Bengal and Delhi – both over 15,000 fresh cases.
Mumbai reported 20,181 new daily cases in the last 24 hours, taking the positivity rate to 29.90 per cent.

India on Thursday saw the biggest single-day jump of 495 Omicron cases, taking the total number of infections of the new variant of coronavirus to 2,630.

At 36,265, Maharashtra on Thursday saw 36 per cent more coronavirus cases than the previous day. West Bengal’s Covid-19 tally rose to 16,93,744 on Thursday as 15,421 more people tested positive for the infection.

Among the major cities, Mumbai recorded the sharpest rise in infection.
Delhi on Thursday reported 15,097 fresh Covid-19 cases, a significant rise of 41 per cent from the previous day. This is the highest single-day rise after May 8 when the tally was at 17,364.

India had reported 90,928 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, the highest in over 200 days. The daily positivity rate in the country currently stands at 6.43 per cent.

Meanwhile, the Covid-19 death toll in the country climbed to 4,82,876 with 325 fatalities.
