‘I am a free bird’: Owaisi again refuses Centre’s Z security | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday once again refused to accept Z security, even after home minister Amit Shah urged him to take the security cover.
During the budget session in the Rajya Sabha on Monday, Shah said that as per a government assessment, Owaisi still faces a security threat. ”Through the House, I would like to request Owaisi ji to accept the security to address our concerns about his safety,” Shah said.
A few hours after the request, Owaisi said: “Today in Parliament, HM Amit Shah asked me to accept Z category security. I want to say to him that value of my life is not more than 22 people who died during CAA protest. I don’t like people with arms around me, I’m a free bird, want to live freely.”
Shots were fired at Owaisi’s car on February 3 in Uttar Pradesh while he was returning to Delhi from an election-related event. Two persons were subsequently arrested and arms were recovered.
A detailed investigation into the matter is being carried out and the Home Ministry has sought a report from the state government.
After the incident, Owaisi had said that those who fired bullets at his vehicle were the same ones who killed Mahatma Gandhi. “My car was attacked, fired four shots. Those who fired bullets were the ones who killed Gandhi. I talk about the rights of the people, hence the bullet was fired,” Owaisi had said during a public meeting at Baghpat’s Chhaprauli.
Referring to the Centre’s decision to provide him Z category security cover, he had said: “I do not want security, I want a share. Make Muslims of India and the poor A-category citizens.”
