NEW DELHI: Centre on Friday blocked 35 YouTube channels from Pakistan. The order was passed based on intelligence inputs received by the ministry of information and broadcasting, said Vikram Sahay, joint secretary of the ministry.
Apart from the 35 YouTube channels, 2 Twitter accounts, 2 Instagram Accounts, 2 websites and a Facebook account have also been blocked.
The common factor amongst all these accounts have been that they operate from Pakistan and spread fake anti-India news and other content, said the joint secretary.
The YouTube channels have a 1.20 crore subscriber base and 130 crore views, said Apurva Chandra, secretary, ministry of information and broadcasting. Earlier also 20 YouTube channels originating from Pakistan had been blocked, in December 2021. Intelligence agencies are trying to find out the source of funding of these channels, Chandra added.
