NEW DELHI: Former Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday claimed that he had got a message on behalf of Pakistan PM Imran Khan to reinstate Navjot Singh Sidhu as a minister in his cabinet.
“I got a message that Prime Minister of Pakistan has sent a request that if you can take Sidhu in your cabinet, I will be grateful. He is an old friend of mine. If he does not work, you can remove him,” Amarinder said.
Amarinder, who was sacked by the Congress as chief minister of Punjab after a relentless campaign by Sidhu, has earlier also accused the cricketer-turned-politician of having close ties with the Pakistan establishment.
Sidhu, who was tourism minister in Amarinder’s cabinet, had quit the ministry after his portfolio was changed by Amarinder Singh.
The former Punjab chief minister after quitting the Congress has floated his own political party Punjab Lok Congress and is contesting the assembly elections in alliance with the BJP.
While leaving the Congress, Amarinder had announced that he will not let Sidhu win the assembly elections.
