CHANDIGARH: Punjab police on Monday night registered an FIR against the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MLA Bikram Singh Majithia in connection with drugs case.
The FIR was registered under Section 25, 27A and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, at state crime police station in Mohali on the basis of a status report submitted by the anti-drug special task force (STF) in February 2018.
Officiating DGP Siddharth Chattopadhyaya had directed the state bureau of investigation on Monday to register an FIR in the case based on the status report earlier submitted by the anti-drug STF head ADGP Harpreet Singh Sidhu in the Punjab and Haryana high court in drug related cases –- CWP 20359 of 2013 and CWP 15916 of 2017.
“The case shall be investigated by a special investigation team for which orders are being issued separately,” the officiating DGP had written to the bureau of investigation.
The FIR was registered on Monday night.
Deputy chief minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, who also heads the home department, said today that the state police will probe the case threadbare and would not hesitate to arrest Majithia.
