covid 19: Defer vaccination including booster by 3 months after recovery: Centre tells states, UTs | India News – Times of India

PUDUCHERRY: The Union health and family welfare ministry has directed the states and Union territories to defer administering the Covid-19 vaccine including precaution dose to beneficiaries by three months after recovery.
Additional secretary (health and family welfare) and National health mission director Vikas Sheel issued a direction in this regard on Friday.
“In case of individuals having lab test proven Sars-2 Covid-19 illness, all Covid vaccination including precaution dose to be deferred by three months after recovery,” said Vikas Sheel in a letter addressed to the additional chief secretary, principal secretary and secretary (health) of all states and Union territories.

The ministry issued the direction after receiving requests from various quarters for guidance on administering precaution dose to the eligible persons having Covid-19 illness. The ministry issued the guidance following scientific evidence and recommendation of the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation in India (NTAGI).
India commenced administering Covid-19 vaccine to children aged 15 to 18 years from January 3 and precaution dose to healthcare workers, front line workers and people aged above 60 with comorbidities from January 10 under the National Covid-19 vaccination programme. The precaution dose must be administered on the completion of nine months i.e. 39 weeks from the date of administration of the second dose, said Vikas Sheel.
