Claiming grand opening in UP polls, PM Modi raises pitch on law and order | India News – Times of India

LUCKNOW: Claiming an overwhelming response from the voters in the first phase of the election in Uttar Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday once again appealed to voters to back BJP while raising the pitch for good law and order, women safety and further crackdown on mafia and musclemen.
His speech and focus on the good law and order situation in Kasganj on Friday was a reflection of enormous voters’ support in the first phase, he claimed.
Interestingly, Modi’s thrust on good governance during five year’s Yogi Adityanath rule comes a few days after he was candid in saying that ‘Yogi government was a must in UP to foil evil plans of mafia and criminals’, in his speech at a virtual rally on February 4.
The PM kept his speech focused on how the Yogi government has put a brake on mafia, criminals, enabling people, especially women, to move freely. Hitting out at the opposition, the PM termed them ‘ghor pariwarwadi’ (extreme nepotistic) and said that they were waiting to take revenge from the people and reminded the people how kidnapping, eve-teasing and other criminal activities were prevalent before the Yogi government came to power.
Political experts believe that PM’s thrust on Yogi government’s functioning looks to be following feedback around popular appeal among voters for Yogi’s “zero tolerance” approach towards crime. The BJP hopes to reap the benefit of the popular appeal of Yogi’s claim of crackdown on crime and zero tolerance towards criminals, especially in the Western UP.
Party insiders said that since there was a general feeling among the voters that the Yogi government was good at the law and order front, it has high hopes that it is sure to help the BJP in the West UP region. “In many houses of west UP, even when males are going against us, the females are backing the Yogi government over the law and order situation. It is probably for this reason that the Prime Minister also raised the pitch around women’s safety and security during his speech at Kasganj on Friday,” they said.
Party insiders believe that the feeling of the traders on law and order is very similar to what women voters have especially in towns and cities and hence the PM’s speech focused on how kidnapping, extortions have come to an end during five years of Yogi government.
With the second phase of polling to be held on February 14, the PM is thus seen sharpening the pitch of good governance during the Yogi government’s five years and promising a second term for Yogi, the symbol of “bulldozer” stance on crime hoping to extract maximum benefit in the next phase.
