Amid student anxiety in tense Ukraine, talks on for more flights | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: A day after it issued an advisory asking Indians to leave Ukraine, the government asked people to maintain calm saying it’s working to increase the number of flights between India and Ukraine. The MEA also set up a control room to help Indian students and others leave the country.
While no longer government-owned, Air India could be operating special flights to Ukraine in coming days.
While scheduled international flights remain suspended in India since March 2020, Ukraine is among the 35 countries that have an air bubble agreement with India. No India carrier flies to Kyiv. Ukraine International Airlines currently has a once-a-week nonstop to Delhi and will double the frequency next month.
“We are aware that many Indian students are presently in Ukraine, and their families are anxious about their wards, particularly about getting flights to India. Discussions are underway with civil aviation authorities and various airlines on how to increase the number of flights between India and Ukraine,” said a government source.
