‘AC malfunction may have led to warship blast’ | India News – Times of India

MUMBAI: The three Indian Navy sailors who were killed in the explosion on board the Rajput-class destroyer, INS Ranvir, at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai on Tuesday were taking a nap during a work break when the incident took place, said Colaba police.
Prima facie, the blast occurred due to a malfunction in the 4,000-tonne warship air-conditioning compartment ‘possibly linked to Freon gas leak’, said a source. The 11 injured crew members are undergoing treatment and their condition is stable.
“The three victims were asleep three floors lower from the main entrance of the ship when the blast occurred. Those who sustained injuries were in the mess on the second lower floor,” said a police officer.
