‘83 box office collection day 1: Ranveer Singh’s sports drama opens with Rs 14 crore – Times of India

Ranveer Singh starrer 83 has made a decent start at the box office. This sports drama has received a thundering response from Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Pune, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Bangalore circuits. According to Boxofficeindia.com, the film has raked in 14.50 crore on its first day. Multiplexes in major cities have added massively to the film’s collection. In fact the collection of 83 is just 10-20 per cent less than what ‘Sooryavanshi’ earned on its opening day.

However, the collection for 83 has been low in the Punjab, UP, Rajasthan Gujarat, MP and Bihar circuits. Coming to the South circuits, the film has made decent business with Mysore, Tamil Nadu / Kerala markets. This sports drama has been well received overall and there is scope for 83 to emerge as a box office blockbuster, with the Christmas holiday adding to its collection. Apart from its Hindi version, 83 also released in dubbed languages in South. It released in 375 screens and expected to rake in around 50 lakhs.

Directed by Kabir Khan, ’83 narrated the story of the India cricket team’s win during the world cup in 1983. Speaking about the film, Kabir Khan had exclusively told ETimes, “You know, 83 is a big responsibility for me. I knew if I don’t recreate this correctly, the country will not forgive me. Ditto for Ranveer: If he won’t portray Kapil correctly, the audience will not forgive him. And as you see from the trailer, he has done it brilliantly. He worked very hard.” ‘83 also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jiiva, Saqib Saleem, Jatin Sarna, Chirag Patil, Dinker Sharma, Nishant Dahiya, Harrdy Sandhu, Sahil Khattar, Ammy Virk, Adinath Kothare, Dhairya Karwa and R Badree in pivotal roles.
